Introduction
The acronym YCE means “Youth Care Entertainment (YCE)”. Youth Care Entertainment (YCE) is an NGO registered under society act of Chipata in Eastern province of Zambia. The aim of the organization is to involve youth in positive activities through tourism sector like crafts and jewelry making, safaris, traditional music, dances and introduce young people to different development programs, encourage their interest and involvement in development of the community. The organization started a project called YCE Social & Cultural Tours for tourist in Chipata, Zambia with the aim to create social tourism packages for the tourists around the world to contribute to community development and to help create sustainable communities that are economically, environmentally and socially healthy and resilient. Moreover, social tourism encourages the preservation of communities’ natural and cultural heritage by helping to increase awareness of community members to the commercial and social values of these treasures. Social tourism can therefore be referred to as the travelling for social wellbeing. YCE has open gates for volunteers, students and youths from around the world to come and work in the community of Chipata, eastern province of Zambia to effectively contribute to developmental projects that are been undertaking by YCE towards nurturing the projects in the communities and intercultural exchange to the projects.
Volunteer In Eastern Province
Our volunteer Program gives the participants the unique opportunity to explore the beauty of Zambia while volunteering in a small community of Chipata and South Luangwa National Park. YCE volunteers will live in town of Chipata district in the eastern province of Zambia with opportunity to travel to Mfuwe, South Luangwa National Park to support and develop social tourism and other developmental projects in the area. At some point volunteers will have a chance to visit neighboring country called Magical Malawi. The volunteers will have long-term placements in the fields of social tourism and
other developmental projects. While volunteering, participants will learn the unique cultural experience through home stays and other cultural activities and explore game viewing and safari in South Luangwa National Park. Lastly the participants will gain professional experience, knowledge about our
country, learn the unique culture of our community, have personal growth and self esteem and the program will help them to work in any environment around the world.
Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) At YCE from Volunteers
Can I travel before or after my projects?
You are free to travel before your project, as long as you arrive at your project location on the start date. You can also travel after your project and we will be happy to help you and advice with onward travel.
Do I need to know any of the local Zambian languages to be a volunteer?
English is an official language spoken in Zambia and most residents understand and speak English. However, it would be nice if a volunteer took time to learn a little bit of any local language since they may be working in the community were mostly, local languages are used. We are able to include language instruction upon request.
What do I do about health and travel insurance?
You have to organize insurance cover prior to departure from your home country. If you have to take part in tourism activities etc, you need to buy the policy that will cover them.We can not take uninsured volunteers.
Can I get a college credit for volunteering?
It is possible to get credit for many of our volunteer projects. Please contact your university for credit information. We will be happy to provide you with any information requested by your university.
Will I need a Visa or is a passport sufficient?
You should have at least 2 full clean pages in your passport and it should be valid for at least six months past the end of your project. On arrival, you will be issued with a volunteer visa that is valid for the duration of your program. Should you wish to extend your stay, then you will incur an extra fee for a visa extension. We will help you with organizing the visa for you.
Will I be allowed to see the surrounding areas other than the location in which my project is?
YES !We make sure that you have free time to explore local culture and attractions. South Luangwa National Park is one of the world’s most exciting tourism destinations and we offer specifically planned excursions and activities on a regular basis. However, you are committed to specific volunteer schedules.
